5 Electric Cars that were the Head-turners at the Geneva Motor Show

This year, during the 85th International Geneva Motor show, we saw some mind-blowing new technologies and design approaches. But somehow this year, the focus was more on an existing technology− the electric car.

Here are 5 of the best high-performance electric cars that were the real head-turners at the show this year:

1. Aston Martin DBX

What makes that Aston Martin’s all-electric DBX car all the more special is that it doesn’t have an engine compartment, which means there’s enough space inside the car. This car is powered by four electric motors that are positioned close to each wheel. Its exterior is made up of machined aluminium with visible milling lines and features a wide grille on its front that sits below the slender headlights.

2. Audi Prologue Avant

Last year, at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Audi left the crowd awestruck with the Prologue coupe concept. And this year, at the recently concluded Geneva Motor Show, it revealed its wagon version called Avant. With stylish front end and a powerful engine, both the cars are very similar to each other. The only difference is that the Prologue Avant concept is a greener version, with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Together its gas and electric motors can blast to 60 miles per hour within 5.1 seconds using 455 horsepower and 553 pounds-feet of torque. Moreover, its battery is capable of covering 33 miles on electric power.

3. Audi R8 e-tron

Another Audi model that hit headline this year at the Geneva Motor Show, is the all-electric version of the its R8 supercar, the Audi R8 e-tron. The R8 e-tron is very similar to its petrol-powered counterpart R8, but comes with a styling differences. It is powered by two electric motors fixed to the rear axle, which produce power to deliver a top speed of 155 miles per hour. In one charge, the car can cover a distance of 276 miles and the car can be fully charged within two hours via a rapid charging point.

4. Koenigsegg Regera

In its attempt to stand out from the competition at the Geneva Motor Show this year, Koenigsegg took things a notch higher by building “the fastest-acceleration, most powerful production car ever.”

Regera is a plug-in hybrid supercar, the first of its kind that “operates all body closures completely automatically. The spectacle to open and close the entire car simultaneously from the remote or smartphone, truly turns the Regera into a transformer”.

This car generates power from three electric motors that deliver power to a group of components that powers the wheels, known as a drivetrain. The battery can be charged up via a plug as well as through a process called regenerative braking. Combining the electrical and combustion power, the Regera can go from 0 to 248 miles per hour in less than 20 seconds.

5. Volkswagen Sport Coupe Concept GTE

The Sport Coupe Concept GTE comes with new design elements, like fastback styling and neat lines. The car comes with a lithium-ion battery housed in the center tunnel, offering all-wheel traction. The combined output of the car is 374 horsepower and the car can cover 32 miles on electric power before the gas motor kicks in and long-range driving begins. This electric car can hit a top speed of 155 miles per hour.
